HARDING III married Rebecca Netherton on 2/13/1776 in Dunmore Co., VA (The
author's source was W & Mary Quarterly, v8, series II, p. 194). Henry and
Rebecca died in Jefferson Co., Ky. Rebecca was the daughter of Henry
Netherton II and his wife Sarah. She had a brother Col. John Netherton (b.
1747, d. 10/11/1834 from pension app). The author stated she got this
Netherton info from Dorothy G. Helmer, genealogist and researcher, a
Netherton descendant, sources unknown to author. George Harding and wife

Suit dismissed since neither party appeared. <BR>Note: Does anyone know who this William Wilmouth?<BR>5/18/1790 (RC-COB1:195). The court ordered John STACY to show why he should
not be treble fined for not providing a list of his taxable property.<BR>11/25/1791 (RC-COB1:250).  Jeremiah HERRAL to receive 12sh6p for killing 1
old wolf.<BR>6/26/1792 (RC-COB2:13).  HORTON v SMITH}  A commission was awared the pltf
to take the depositions of Edward Smoot and John STACY SENR of the Territory.<BR>7/23/1793 (RC-COB2:93)  Court ordered John WOOD to pay 3pds annually to the
overseers of the poor for the maintenance of a baseborn child of whom he is
charged to be the father by  Sinah HOGG, its mother and that Sinah be
allowed to keep the child in her possession.  Sinah was later presented by
the grand jury for having a baseborn child  and….<BR>9/24/1793 (RC-COB2:108)  Court ordered Sinah HOGG to pay Robert TATE,
Stephen HOGG, Mary HOGG, and James HOGG for their attendance in court for
her suit against John WOOD.  Sinah HOGG won her suit against John WOOD on
8/26/1794 (p. 178-9) and received a judgment for $20.001/3 plus costs.<BR>Note: I copied these entries because of the name Sinah being a name found
in the STACY/CODY connection.  The John WOOD was son of Jonathan Wood and
his wife Nancy (Davison) OSBORN WOOD who may have been a daughter of James
DAVISON I (d. 1794).  On p.109, Stephen HOGG was ordered to pay John STACY
for his attendance in court for him against John WOOD.<BR>6/25/1794 (RC-COB2:155) Simon STACY and John STACY sat on a jury that heard
the case of Stephen HOGG vs John WOOD} trespass, assault, and battery.<BR>9/24/1799 (RC-COB3:21) Indenture of Bill of Sale from William TURNER to
William COMBS was presented in court and proven by HOWERTON.  This
indenture was again proven in court on 11/24/1801 by the oath of Wm LAWSON.
 Indenture from William COMBS to William HOWERTON presented and
acknowledged by COMBS.  Indenture from William HOWERTON to William COMBS
presented and acknowledged by HOWERTON.<BR>NOTE:  This is the very first record for any COMBS in the Russell Co. Court
Order Books.<BR>8/26/1800 (RC-COB3:74). A Power of Attorney from William COPE and William
COPE JR to Enoch Wright was certified in Grainger Co., Tenn. and ordered to
be recorded.
Note:  A William COPE was in Russell Co. court orders as early as 1790.<BR>11/24/1801 (RC-COB3:168) The sheriff was ordered to immediately jail
William COMBS and Champion Faris for insolent behavior in court.
Note: Champion Faris, a neighbor of  the Davisons removed to Warren Co.,
Tenn.  I think Champion was born by 1770 or possibly earlier.<BR>9/29/1802 (RC-COB3:222)  Commonwealth vs Samuel CORNETT} on an indictment.
The deft found not guilty. Court ordered that William COMBS and John COMBS
be paid  for their attendance on behalf of the Commonwealth in the suit
against Samuel Cornett.<BR>Note:  This is the only mention of John COMBS in Russell court order records.<BR>2/26/1805 (RC-COB3:367) Deed from William COMBS and wife to William
HOWERTON presented and proven by oaths of Isaac O’Donald and John SMITH.<BR>Note: I just noticed that name John SMITH again.  Henry Harding II’s
son-in-law was named John SMITH. I do not know if they are the same.  This
deed was by William and Sithe COMBS.  They were moving from Russell with
all the rest of those folks going to Ky. and Warren Co., Tenn.<BR>1/2/1805 (RC-COB3:420) Deed from William COMBS to William HOWERTON again
proven in court by the oath of John WELLS.<BR>1/3/1809 (RC-COB4:18) Indenture of Bargain and Sale from William COMBS and
Sytha his wife to William HOWERTON proved by the oaths of Clinton  and
James GODSEY.<BR>Note: The name Clinton is interesting since it came down in the Combs line.<BR>10/3/1809 (RC-COB4:92)  The court ordered Susanna CRABTREE, William
THOMPSON, and Anne COMBS to be paid for two days attendance as witness for
the Commonwealth vs Charles Sherman on case of buggery. <BR>6/6/1810 (RC-COB4:147). Jury: William COMBS<BR>5/4/1819 (RC-COB6:116) William COMBS appeared in court as the father of
defendant Jacob COMBS who is under 21.<BR>5/11/1869 (Russell Co., Vir. Chancery Court Order Book 1831-187?., p. 416)
Margaret COMBS vs William COMBS.  The court believes the charge of adultery
against the defendant is fully proved and the divorce is granted.  The
plaintiff is to recover her costs….<BR>William COMBS’ Land Transactions: <BR>9/13/1799-9/24/1799 (RC-DB3:46-7). William COMBS of Russell Co. to William
HOWERTON of Russell Co., 30 acres on the north side of Mockason Creek
beginning at or above the ford at the creek by Champion FARRISES on a
conditional line…..by William HOWERTON’s spring…..signed William COMBS his
seal and acknowledged by William COMBS.<BR>9/13/1799-8/24/1799 (RC-DB3:48-49). William HOWERTON of Russell Co. to
William COMBS of same, land adjacent him containing 30 acres on Big
Mockason…N100…30poles…land that was purchased by William HOWERTON of John
FRAZIER which had been granted to FRAZIER by patent dated 6/3/1788.<BR>NOTE:  William HOUSTON, James DAVISON I,  John FRAZIER, and Jonathan WOOD
were orginal neighbors owning land 12 miles NE of what is now Gate City and
near the current Russell/Scott Co. line. Then, HOUSTON, FRAZIER, WOOD, and
James DAVISON II  moved down Moccasin and obtained land about 7-8 miles NE
of Gate City.  The location of the land these four originally settled on
remained in their possession.  William HOUSTON built a fort on his original
land to protect him and his neighbors from the Indian raids which have been
well documented.  The land that HOWERTON purchased (RC-DB2:44-5) of John
and Mary FRAZIER bordered that of Elisha FARIS.  Elisha and some members of
his family were killed by the Indians as were some members of John
FRAZIER’s family. <BR>10/22/1804-8/1805 (DB3:614). William COMBS and Sytha his wife of Russell
County to William HOWERTON, 100a on Big Mockerson Creek, joining an old
survey of said COMBS …beg at 3 white oaks, corner to said COMBS………..another
COMBS corner…….with his line crossing Mockerson Creek twice to the
beginning…granted by patent to COMBS dated 1/20/1798.<BR>NOTE: 5/2/1782 (Wash. Co. Survey Book 1, p. 157):A Washington Co. survey
for John FRAZIER, by virture of a certificate from the Commission for the
District of Washington and Montgomery Counties…for 236a lying on both sides
of Mockison Creek…beg  at a white oak corner to Elisha FARIS land……A
paragraph dated 8/8/1781 added to the bottom of the survey stated John
FRAZIER was entitled to 400 acres by settlement in the year 1774, lying
below that of Rubin PRICE upon Mockinson Creek.    This record places Rubin
PRICE (future husband of Dolly CODY) in Russell Co. before 8/8/1781.  Rubin
