NOTE: The following is a first rough draft of this report, and a very "tentative" genealogy

III. Sarah UNDERWOOD, born before 1645, died after 1702 in (of) Westmoreland Co, Virginia; married between 1650 and 1668, Col. William PIERCE (son of Capt. William PIERCE), died in 1702 in Westmoreland Co, Virginia. Known Issue: Ann PIERCE; Elizabeth PIERCE; Mary PIERCE; Margaret PIERCE; John PIERCE; Sarah PIERCE.

Note: Although Sarah, wife of Col. Wm. PIERCE is believed to have been the Sarah UNDERWOOD named in the will of Col. John UPTON, and the "sister PIERCE" named in the will of Elizabeth UNDERWOOD Taylor Slaughter Catlett Butler, the latter is thus far the only documentation located re her relationship. If so, it is quite insubstantial. A growing collection of records that may be of assistance in strengthening (or destroying) the case for Sarah follows:

1 June 1663,(VA LPBV:29) William PIERCE 4054 acres of land lying on the north side of Rappahannock River and on the east side of the main Rappahannock Creek (UNDERWOOD, Fothergill)

Notes: Daughter Elizabeth PIERCE Bridges m Nathaniel POPE, guardian of the grandson, William PIERCE who was named in the will of Col. Wm. PIERCE. This or another of the 50,000 Nathaniel POPES was alias Nathaniel BRIDGES. The latter's mother, Mary SISSON, m (1) Nathaniel POPE; (2) Anthony BRIDGES; (3) another David WICKLIFFE, the brother of the above Robert WICKLIFFE; and (4) Lewis NICHOLAS.
