Neil Reed's Notes: Taken from a true copy of the old family record written by Thomas Reed (son of William and Sarah (Coombs) Reed) at the age of seventy six without spectacles. The letter was signed on the back by David Reed's son. David Newton Reed

David Newton Reed was my g'gfather. And my research and census records show these birthdates to be correct. William Reed died 28 Mar 1814 and his wife migrated to Illinois with several of their children. Three others of the children, including my 2nd g'gfather, David Reed stayed in Indiana.

My 2nd G'gfather, David Reed married Margaret Coombs, born 25 Apr 1807 in Clark County, Indiana and died. 27 Feb 1872 in Tippecanoe County, Indiana. Margaret was his second wife, married 03 Dec 1844 in Washington county, IN, as David's first wife, Mary Harrod, apparently died the same day, 03 Dec 1844. David and Mary had 4 children, and David and Margaret's marriage was as far as we can tell, was childless, but nonetheless, Margaret raised the children. David and Margaret are buried in the Mt. Hebron Cemetery here in Tippecanoe County. I have pictures of their gravesite if you are so interested. The gravesite also has Margaret's mother, Hannah (Griffith) Coombs, wife of Joel Coombs and several other of her siblings families buried there. Joel Coombs died 16 Jun 1853, in Washington County, IN and the Reed and Coombs families migrated to Tippecanoe County soon after.

Margaret (Coombs) Reed was the great granddaughter of Joseph Coombs II; and from David's parents marriage, William and Sarah (Coombs) Reed, David was a grandson of Joseph Coombs II. Joseph Coombs II; Jesse Sr and Sarah (unknown) Coombs; Joel and Hannah (Griffith) Coombs; Margaret Coombs b.25 Apr 1807, Clark County, IN, d. 27 Feb 1872, Tippecanoe County, IN.

James Henry Reed, one of the 3 sons of David and Mary (Harrod) Reed married Nancy Jane Combs/(Coombs) m.26 Apr 1870 in Tippecanoe County, IN. Nancy was a daughter of Joel and Sarah Jane (Tash) Coombs. So, Joseph Coombs II was the 3rd g'gfather of Nancy Jane Coombs(Joseph II, Joel and Sarah, Joel and Hannah) and the 2nd g'gfather of James Henry Reed.
