Goals

  • Determine the “genetic profile” for this line of COOMBS. Done
  • Establish the “lineage genetic profile” for this branch of COOMBS. Done
  • Want to document Anthony's relationship to Alister COOMBS and relationship to the other Coombs along the Kennebec River in Maine before 1688: Thomas COOMBS, Henry COOMBS, John COOMBS, Michael COOMBS, and Hardman COOMBS.
  • Utilize DNA to determine the validity of French vs English ancestry of this branch of COOMBS.
  • Note: Resources could still be searched. - I am very cautious of the assumptions and romantic histories created by William Carey Coombs in his book "Anthony Coombs and His Descendants." There is no documented proof that Anthony was French and there are other unexplored explanations as to why a "French" oral tradition could have grown up around him: lived along the frontier with New France and/or he was apprenticed to a french speaking Acadian blacksmith.
