Under Mason Combs, of Stafford [Co., VA], I have already said that William, of Russell County [Co., VA] is a grandson of old Mason, and a son of William (Born in 1740). William, Sr., married Cynthia ___, was living in Rusell [Russell] in 1815; William, Jr., married Anna ___, died in Russell, 1841. Dr. Morgan LaFayette Combs, President of Mary Washington College of the University of Virginia, and E.R. Combs, Clerk of the Virginia State Senate, descend from this line. The descendants in Russell are very numerous. William, Sr. lived on Moccasin Creek, and some of his land, on Big Moccasin Creek is supposed to have reached over into Washington County [VA]. The data to follow were submitted by Mr. Fred Harmon Combs, an attorney, of Grundy, Virginia. Mr. Combs descends from Ned Combs, of the Carroll County [VA] Combses.
