Footnote 1. Page 155. Re Generation 10:

Re: Granville COMBS' family and parents, see the Combs &c. Research Report for Mason and Matilda WATTS Combs which questions which John was Mason's father.  See also  Rev. War Soldier John COMBS (one of the "eight") and a second John COMBS of Perry Co, KY.

Re:  Nicholas COMBS is listed as a grandson of Matthew COMBS, but is not found with any of Matthew's children in 1850.  On page 164 of the General Table, under the listing of William B. "Billy Bunk" COMBS, Nicholas is listed as the son of George COMBS (and Nancy SMITH) who did have a son Nicholas.  Nicholas is listed on the 1860 Breathitt Co. KY Census with wife Amanda and son William, apparently the Nicholas COMBS and Mandagreen [Amanda Green?] ANGEL listed as parents of William, b 14 Nov 1858 per Breathitt Co, KY VS (An Amanda ANGEL was in 1850 Breathitt KY census HH of Delphia ANGEL, immediately preceding the HH of Isaac & Rachel COMBS Back, the latter the d/o Matthew & Frankie BROWN Combs) See also the Bible Record of Richard SMITH, which lists a Nicholas COMBS b 31 Mar 1838; and see also the Nicholas COMBS who m . Same Nicholas? Research is in progress.

Re "10 Aaron [Combs] (son of Matthew). Had a boy and a girl," Aaron m Ruth DICKERSON per Dickey Diary Interviews and see 1829 Perry Co, KY Groom's Index re marriage of Aaron COMBS. Aaron is found in 1830 on Perry Co, KY census and on 1839 tax list, and in 1850 on Gentry Co, MO census.

Footnote 2. Page 157. Generation 10.  Isaac B. COMBS b ca 1823, was married 1st to Louvisa McINTYRE per Isaac's brother William M. COMBS' Dickey Diary Interview, and 2nd to Rebecca SWANGO.   JHC has confused this Isaac B. COMBS with Isaac B. COMBS (1863-1940), s/o William M. and Jane COMBS Combs, who married 1st to Margaret Catherine "Kitty" MORTON (per son Greenberry's 1993 Obituary), 2nd to Laura MORTON, and 3rd to Mary MILLER.  See Wolfe Co., KY Records.

Footnote 3. Page 158. Generation 11.  Madison COMBS' children from his marriages to Susan COMBS and Mary Ann SMITH reversed.  The 1870 Perry Co., KY Census lists Madison and Susan with children Minta (Arminta) and Fielden (Tilden).  Madison and Mary Ann were married ca 1874 per the 1900 Knott Co., KY Census report of them.

Footnote 4. Page 162. Generation 11.  "Black" Shade COMBS' grandfather, "Old Shade" COMBS is one of the children listed as a child of  "Soldier John" COMBS, which hasn't been proven.  See Rev. War Soldier John COMBS (one of the "eight") and a second John COMBS of Perry Co, KY.

Footnote 5. Page 164. Sewell Stephen COMBS  1840-1916, was married three times, not just once:  First and Second wife Mary ROSE 1850-1873 and Lizzie SWANGO 1853-1893 are both buried in the Campton Burying Grounds, Wolfe Co., KY.  Third wife, Nancy Katherine AMYX 1852-1943, outlived Sewell and died in Madison Co., KY per her Ky Death Certificate.  It is not known at this time which children belong to which mother.
