BROWN, Thomas,b 28 Feb 1753, Augusta Co, VA;enlisted in Tryon (later Rutherford Co), NC, but his father WilliamBROWN lived at the Waxhaw Settlement in SC. He applied for hispension on 8 Oct 1833, Warren Co, TN,aged 80. His father, William, and brothers Alexander, Robert &William BROWN, Jr. also served in the war. In 1780, Thomas BROWNmoved to the Holston River in Sullivan Co NC(now TN) for several years, then moved to Clinch Riverin RoanCo TN, then to Smith Co, TN,then in 1808 to Warren Co, TN; died 3 Sep 1849 & left no widowbut left children: William Jr., Alexander & Rebecca BROWN,Margaret HALL & Nancy McGREGOR & a George SAVAGE was adm.of soldier's estate in 1850, & a Richmond McGREGOR was Clerkof the County Court for Warren Co TN in 1850, but no relationto pensioner's daughter was stated (File S3509, Abstracts of RevolutionaryWar Pension Files, Virgil D. BROWN, Robert [bro of Thomas above], was born in 1758 in Rowan Co, NC,lived in Burke Co NC when he enlisted, and afterthe warlived in Hawkins, Knox, Smithand WarrenCos, TN, the latter where he applied for his pension on 10 Jan1832, aged 75. He died after 1840, and is buried in Viola, WarrenCo, TN. (RW Pension File S3057, Genealogical Abstractsof Revolutionary War Pension Abstract Files, Virgil D. In 1797, Robert BROWN sold 150 acres of landon DodsonCreek of the Holston River in Hawkins Co TN "whereMiles BARRETT and JohnWILLISnow lives on" to Martin (& Sarah Combs) Johnson,the former an associate of Mason Combsof Hawkins Co TN, and his sons, Simon & Jeremiah Combs. TheBROWNS, Combs & JOHNSONS were all later of Warren Co TN, withMartin & Sarah Combs Johnson first of Smith, then JacksonCos, TN.

"Thomas CODY of Perry Co., KY, 25 January 1853. ThomasCODY declares he was born in 1783 and has been aresident of Kentuckysince 1804. His grandmother Judah STACYraised Mary (EVERAGE Cornett)as a child until she married WilliamCORNETT. Mary married about 55 or 56yearsago. William was thena middle aged man and had children. Mary had twochildrenbutwas never married before she married CORNETT. She had Sally andPolly beforeshe married. Sally was the eldest and married ThomasMcDANIELand Polly married Robt. S. BRASHERS, Probate Judge ofPerry County. Mary wasconsidered one of his family and was marriedat the house of George MORRISONin Sullivan Co., Tenn.Squire GAINES, a justice of the peace, marriedthem. A short timeafter they were married CORNET left for the mountains ofKentuckyand seven or eight years afterward he left for Kentucky with hisfather,hunting for elk and buffalo, and found William CORNETTand his wife in a campat the mouth of Bull Creek, a branch ofthe north fork of the Kentucky River.This was in 1804. Mary andCORNETT were married but a short distance fromwhere his fatherlived, as all the family were present, as his grandmotherSTACYhad helped to raise Mary. William had children Robert, Nancy,Roger,Samuel, Nathaniel, Rachael, Joseph E. and an infant notnamed. Thomas CODY was the s/o William & Sinai STACY Codyand gs/o Simon and Judith TOLSON Stacy (Pettit), Sr.,whose son, Benjamin STACY, Sr. had m Ann Combs(d/o Mason, Sr.) and whose, daughter, Seth STACY, had m William Combs, Sr.(s/o Mason, Sr.). In 1804, when Thomas speaks of meeting up withWilliam CORNETT, his parents were living on Crabtree Creek ofthe Big Moccasin, North Fork Holston River, on property adjacentto William and Seth STACY Combs, Sr. in Russell Co, VA.
Sarah JOHNSON was the widow of RW Thomas STAPLETON.On 14 Mar 1853, John Combs(s/o RW John "8" and Margaret Combs) of Owsley Co, KY,aged67, declared that when he first knew them, Thomas and SarahJOHNSON Stapletonlived with his parents on Long Island of theHolston (Hawkins or SullivanCo, TN).
Question: Was George MORRISON kin to RW Patrick MORRISON (Seenext) whoserved in the 1788 Sullivan Co TN Militia Co.of Capt. Thomas VINCENT with a John Combs (still unidentified)& Lt. MORRISON, Patrick, resided in Rowan Co NCat the time of his enlistment; married Ann FOSTER abt 1769 inRowan Co NC. After the war, they moved to TN. (See 1788 Sullivan Co TN Militia List)In 1801 they were living in Sumner Co TN& later moved to Wilson Co, TN where MORRISON d 16 Jul 1833.His widow, Ann FOSTER Morrison, d 20 Sep 1838. Among his childrenwere a son, Hugh MORRISON who d 16 Apr 1852 in Crittenden Co KY,leaving two children, Ann & Martha MORRISON both living inCrittenden Co KY. Benjamin BELT, Administrator of Patrick MORRISON'S estate, made application for pension which may have been due soldierat his death on 10 Aug 1852. RORK, Michael, born 9/29/1746, Bucks Co, PA,enlisted 1781; Rockingham Co., VA,in VA regiment...enlisted there again and; unnamed brother subbedfor him to finish out his term of service; Moved 1792 to Hawkins Co TN where he pensioned in 1832. He died testate 9 Jan 1939 in Shenandoah Co., VA[sic, but see Hawkins Co, TN]. He married Letty who pensionedage 90; Hawkins CO., TN.In 1840, John KITE gave an affidavit there, then age73, declaringhe knew soldier and wife prior to their marriage. Nancy Combs gave an affidavit in 1839 at age 87 in Perry Co., TN [nb: sic,but shouldread Perry CoKY],stating that she was at soldiers wedding, and resided nearthemthen per that Co. Court Clerk Jesse Combs.
