The following is a description of the scanned letter by Pete DeCaro.

The photos are of a original hand written letter which also contained a blank picture post card of Gilbert Raynolds Combs. The envelope is addressed to my Great Grandfather Rev George H. Wrigley with a full return address of Mrs. Gilbert Raynolds Combs, 607 East Durham Road, Mt Airy Philadelphia; post marked from Philadelphia Pa, August 4th 1930.

This letter was found in a trunk of old pictures, post cards and letters from family members and friends going back to the 1890s.

Fortunately my Grandmother Mozelle, daughter of Rev. George H. Wrigley, seemed to be a collector.

I suspect part of the letter hints to that, (…“tell Mozelle I will send more things to her as soon as I can”.), made as a reference to the picture of Gilbert;

The letter reads as follows:

Dearest George I am sending a small check. It is like pulling teeth to get any money from these tenants on 11th st.
We are afraid to put them out or we wont get anything and as Bert says we do get a little occasionally and it pays taxes & water (? meter) rent.
Hope all are well.
We have had some awful weather! but a nice breeze tonight and hope for rain.
Love to all and tell Mozelle I will send some more things to her as soon as I can.
Dorothy has been here for a week.
Al is travelling out West since May 17th and is a man of money now.
I think he has retired.
Grace and Billy are at Ocean Grove.
Good Bye dear and I hope things will be better for all soon
Your Loving sister Rose

I hope this letter, a brief family snap shot of their life in 1930, will provide someone additional ancestral clues instead of decomposing in an attic.

Pete
