This is the great-grandmother of Bill James, Clara Belle Eversole (her mother was Susan Combs, Grandparents were Josiah H and Polly Ann Combs, her great Grandfather was Jesse Combs and her great-great grandfathe was General Elijah Combs. This is the "Combs Quilt" as shown in a newspaper article in 1959 (published in the Lexington Herald-Leader, Lexington, Kentucky).

The Combs Quilt (according to her) was based on the Combs Coat of Arms or Family Crest. She was a quilter and her Mom (Susan Combs Eversole) passed it on to her (I think they worked on it together at some point.

The points are "combs" and are red. I have the quilt. The vine is Green. These old timers passed along these patterns from the old country (England) over the century's.

I thought that it might help track down who the Combs were as these things (like other coats of arms)can be tracked by experts.
