“Ruby, the little six-year old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. M.E. Combs died Sunday evening with congestion and was burried Monday at the Johnston Cemetery.”

“Mrs Lucy Combs, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Rufus Johnson of Eight Mile, died Sunday from typhoid malarial fever and was buried this afternoon. Deceased is survived by her husband and five children, who have the sympathy of many friends.”

FRANK M. PHILLIPS
“Mr. Frank M. Phillips of Conway died at his home in that city Monday evening from an illness of several months, from Bright's Disease. The remains were brought to this city Tuesday evening and carried to the home of C.E. Crook, where the funeral was held next morning at 10 o'clock, conducted by Rev. L.C. Bauer of the Baptist Church, the burial following at Walnut Grove where he was laid beside his son, Tom Phillips, a promising young man who died suddenly two years ago, and to whom the family was much devoted. Mr. Phillips lived the greater part of his life at Calico Rock, where he was one of the progressive citizens and business men of that section. He is survived by a devoted wife [Martha Combs], three daughters and one son, who are: Mrs. Dora Albright and Miss Belle Phillips of this city. Mrs. H.H. Smith of Calico Rock and Mr. Andy E. Phillips of Louisiana, all of whom, with Rev. E.R. Steel, Pastor of the Conway Methodist Church accompanied the remains to this city Tuesday night. To the sorrowing ones who are bowed in grief is extended the deepest sympathy of our people.”

"Vivian Lavern Combs Bates, 81, of Newport died Thursday, June 5, at Newport. Born at Pennington, she was employed by Victor Metal Industries for 15 years and worked in home health for several years. She was a member of the Cherokee Church of Christ. Survivors include her husband, Phillip H. Bates of Newport, one son, Danny Mason of Cape Girardeau, Mo.; one daughter, Betty Altermann of Newport; three grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Julius and Delia Kimberling Combs; one brother; and two sisters. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Walnut Grove Cemetery, with Paul Evins officiating.

He established and was publisher of the Jackson Countian, and was a member of Midway Church of Christ. He had also been a Church of Christ minister for many years. Survivors include his wife, Barbara Bray Harbison Combs of the home; one son, Billy A. Combs of Harrisburg; one daughter, Gina R. Motes of Harrisburg;.. two brothers, Joe Combs of Marion and Don Combs of Midway; two sisters, Earline Smith of Harrisburg and Barbara Rushing of Cape Girardeau, Mo.; three grandchildren, Brent Wake, Tyler Bates and Dylan Combs, all of Harisburg;.."

Survivors include two sons, Donald Rex Combs of Paxton, Ill., and Bobbie Dale Combs of Newport; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchilldren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruby Jewell Combs, and his parents..."
