1870 Merced Co, CA Census

Snelling

Fannie BLUDWORTH [head of household]
Fannie Combs 42 MO keeping house
Fannie 18 OR
Charles 16 OR
Hugh 10 OR

Combs Researcher Jim McMillen

JM Notes: Given the vagaries of the census, could this be not Fannie, but Cynthia, neè Synthia M. SNELLING who m 29 Jun 1843, Johnson Co, MO, Richard C. Combs (after which they are found in Yamhill Co, OR by 1847)?

  1. This is near the right age for Cynthia, who is given different implied birth years ages over several censuses; however, she is usually thought to have been born in Kentucky,
  2. Cynthia is said by a descendant to have had a daughter Frances who married William LIGHTNER, whose wife Frances was the same age as this girl,
  3. Cynthia was in Oregon when the three children listed were born.
  4. Cynthia was the aunt of Fannie WHITE Bludworth (the above householder), daughter of Sarah Ann SNELLING White, Cynthia's sister.

Notes: 1860 Census record still needed. See also Sonoma Co, CA, to where Richard C. and Cynthia M. SNELLING Combs later removed, and where is also found a Hugh Logan Combs, age 29, b OR, in the 1890 Greater Register of that county.
