South Moreton, a parish in the hundred of [Moreton? not yet extracted], county of Berks, is adjacent to North Moreton to the north, Brightwell and Sotwell to the northeast, Cholsey to the southeast, Aston Upthorp and Aston Tirrell to the southwest, East Hagbourne to the west and Didcot to the northwest; and is only three mi. from the border of Oxfordshire (parishes of Crowmarsh Gifford and Mongewell). According to The Domesday Book:
1086 Domesday Survey. Berkshire. South Moreton (modern) "Moretune: William LOVETT; Humphrey VISDELOUP. Church, mill."
The Domesday Book adds "on Mill Brook; moat; church with a Saxon doorway." No Lovett and only one Combe record has been located in South Moreton's parish records so far, and this twelve years before the Soulbury, Bucks marriage of John and Elizabeth LOVETT Combe who did not remove to Sparsholt, Berks until ca 1643:
