Kentisbeare (aka Kentisbere), a parish in the eastern division hundred of Hayridge, in the Archdeaconry and Diocese of Exeter, is 2-1/4 miles southeast of Willand, and 2-1/2 miles south of Uffculme, and includes the hamlet of Sainhill. The Trustees of the late Earl Of Egremont were patrons of the rectory in 1850 and lords of the manor, formerly held by the PUNCHARDSON, FURNEAUX, BONVILLE, and other families. (White). 05 Mar 1656/7 - 1 Jun 1657 The will of John GORGES of the Parish of St. Margaretts Westminster, Co. Middlesex., Esquire included "Vnto my sonne fferdinando my ffreehold Lande and Leases in co. Devon… " (Proved in London)("New England Historical Genealogical Register, 1900") Notes: It is not yet known if Kinterberrye was (1) Kentisbeare (a.k.a. Kentisbere) (2) Kentisbury, a parish in the hundred of Braunton, Devonshire (Northern Division); or perhaps (3) Tamerton Folliot, Hundred of Roborough (Southern Division). Unfortunately, no early Combs records have been located as yet in any of these parishes, although the marriage of John and Susan COMBE Tilly, kin to the Archdale-Combs Families, took place in the nearby parish of Willand.

Ferdinando GORGES, s/o John & Mary (-----) Gorges, m 22 May 1660, Mary ARCHDALE, d/o Thomas & Mary NEVILLE Archdale, and gd/o Richard & Judith THORPE Archdale who was 1st cousin to Margaret ARCHDALE who m John COMBE in 1587 in London.
