Modbury, a parish in the Southern Division, Hundred of Ermington, 3/14 miles east northeast of Holbeton. In February of 1645, Sir Nicholas SLANNING, while entrenched at Modbury with two thousand men, was defeated by the "Devonshire club-men." (History and Georgraphy of Devonshire)
