Northam, a parish in the north division, hundred of Shebbear, less than two miles north of Bideford, 2-1/4 miles northeast of Abbotsham, and less than 7 miles west of Tawstock, 5 miles south of Braunton... The parish is bounded by the Bristol channel on the west, and by the navigable river Torridge on the east.

26 Jul 1598 - 28 Nov 1598 The will of William BOROWGHE Esq, dated 26 July 1598, proved 28 November 1598 in London, EN, included a bequest "to the poor of Northham in Devonshire." (Burroughs-Combs-Vassall-Ware Families)

Notes : William BORROUGHS was the brother of Stephen, whose daughter, Judith, m (1) Thomas SCOTT; and (2) John VASSALL whose descendants were later in both & Old Rappahannock Co VA where VASSALL witnessed a deed between William UNDERWOOD, Sr., step-son of Archdale Combs, and John FOXHALL, whose daughter m, among others, one Alexander GORGES (unidentified; however, see Archdale-Gorges Families).
