South Pool, a village and parish, in the southern division, Coleridge Hundred, five miles east of East Allington, 6 miles southeast of Loddiswell, 7-1/2 miles southwest of Stoke Fleming and 9 miles southwest of Dartmouth. The parish is under the jurisdiction of the Archdeaconry of Totnes and the Diocese of Exeter, includes the hamlet of North Pool and part of Frogmore Village (Sherford)... W.M. PRAED was lord of the manor of South Pool in 1850 (White) and the Earl of Devon owns the manor of North Pool, although (in 1850) Thos. CORNISH, Esq., Mr. Edw. GARLAND, and a few smaller owners, had estates as well, chiefly freehold. The parish was anciently held by the de POLA, PUNCHARDON, and SCOBEL families. The Church (St. Cyriac,) has monuments for members of the DARE, LAKE, and BASTARD families. (White)
