Aug. 15, 1573 Middle Temple Admissions. Edward COMBES, late of New Inn, gent., son and heir of Edward C., of Barholte Sackvelde, Essex, gent. decd. Called 9 Feb., 1578-9 (Combs &c. Middle Temple Records)The manor Barholte Sackvelde was, according to a number of early (non-Combs) Essex records, "Barholt Sackvill alias Bergholt Sackvill alias West Barfield..." and "Barholt Sackville alias Bergholt alias West Barfold." It lies between the City of Colchester and the parish of Fordham where an Edward COMBE, father of Edward and Susan, died in 1570.
