Jasper County, was re-named from “Old Randolph” (not to be confused with present-day Randolph) in 1812. Old Randolph was established from Baldwin in 1807; Baldwin was formed from Creek Lands in 1803-05.

1 Sep 1810 Benjamin WALLACE of Hancock Co. to Presley INGRAM of Baldwin Co. for $1,000, 202 1/2 a., lot #151 in the 17th District Baldwin, now Randolph. S/ Benjamin WALLACE. Wit: Thomas W. EDWARD, James COMBS (?). Proved before Jos. COOPER, J.P. by Thos. W. EDWARD 28 Sep 1810 in Hancock Co. who also saw James COMES (COMER?) witness. Recorded 23 Mar 1811.

CH Note: This is a VERY INTERESTING record because the above Thomas W. EDWARD "looks like" Thomas Wheeler EDWARDS, s/o William and Eleanor WHEELER Edwards, Sr. According to a researcher (unnamed) quoted in King's Overwharton Parish Register, Stafford Co, VA, William and Eleanor WHEELER Edwards were also the parents of William EDWARDS, Jr., who m pre-1805, Elizabeth "Betsey" COMBS, d/o Cuthbert & Sarah "Sally" EVANS Combs of Stafford Co, VA and Clark Co, KY:

From The Register of Overwharton Parish, Stafford Co, VA, 1723-1758 and Sundry Historical and Genalogical Notes, Compiled and Published by George Harrison Sanford King, Fellow, American Society of Genealogist, Fredericksbury, VA, Southern Historical Press, Easley, SC, 1961:

Married: WHEELER, Eleanor and William EDWARDS, 12 Feb 1756.

According to author's footnote:
"A descendant of this couple [William and Eleanor WHEELER Edwards] sent me the following data: William EDWARDS was born in VA in 1728; died November 9, 1813. He married February 12, 1756 Eleanor Wheeler who was born in MD,
1730; died June 9, 1811 on the Potomac River. Issue: (1) William, born May 11, 1757, married Elizabeth COMBS, and moved to Clarke Co. KY; (2) John (September 27, 1759-August 3, 1838) [See Revolutionary Pension #R-3257 for
his Bible record]; (3) Richard (June 25, 1762-1783); (4) George Rumney born January 11, 1763; (5) Theresa, born November 25, 1773; (6) Thomas Wheeler Edwards born October 27, 1776 and moved to KY about 1800."

CH: Nothing more is noted re Thomas Wheeler EDWARDS in this source, but if he was same as above Thomas W. EDWARD, he was also in KY, and I'd think it highly likely that the above James COMBS/COMES was somehow kin to Cuthbert COMBS. I have no idea, however, whom James COMBS might be. Neither Cuthbert COMBS, nor any of his siblings had a known son, James, so far as I recall?
