Union County's northern border is the Tennessee/North Carolina State Lines. The county was established in 1832 from Cherokee County, which in turn was established in 1831 from Cherokee Lands, Habersham, and Hall Counties. In 1856, Towns County was established from Union and Rabun Counties. The only "identified" Combs thus far in Union County is Mary Combs Souther, d/o Thomas Hicks & Keziah HAYS Combs of Wilkes Co NC (See Below).
