Madison County was established in 1812 from St. Clair. Descendant counties include: Edwards (from Madison and Gallatin in 1814); Bond (1817); Greene (1821); Montgomery (from Madison & Bond in 1821); Pike (from Madison, Bond and Clark in 1821); and Macoupin (from Madison and Greene in 1829).
