Randolph County was established in 1818 from Wayne Co IN. In 1824, Allen Co was established from unorganized territory attached to Randolph in 1824. Delaware from Randolph in 1827. Adams was established from Allen and Randolph in 1835; and that same year, Jay was established from Delaware and Randolph.

07 Jan 1837 Micajah Combs & [his eldest son] Joseph Combs each bought land in Randolph Co., IN Jan. 7, 1837. Their original land patent deeds from the U. S. for T20N, R15E, S17 list them as residents of Montgomery Co., OH at the time of application. (Extracted by Combs Researcher Bob Combs from copies of original deeds. See also Combs BLM Land of Ohio).

BC Note: Micajah Combs of Montgomery Co, OH and Randolph Co, IN is believed to be the same who was earlier from Fayette Co PA. See 1850 census below. Also note that others owning land in this section were: Thomas BARNES, Perry PEASE, and John and Joseph WHEATLEY. Like Micajah and Joseph Combs, these men were also all residents of Montgomery Co, OH when they patented their land in Randolph.

Notes: Micajah Combs first appears in records on the same 1814 (for 1813) tax list as his presumed father, Joseph, in Franklin Twp., Fayette Co, PA, thus 21 years at that time (b pre-1793). In 1820, Micajah is on the Franklin Twp., Fayette Co, PA census, age 26-45 (b ca 1765-1784), but by 1830 is in Montgomery Co, OH where he was residing when he patented land in Randolph County (See 1837 records above). Micajah's father, Joseph of Franklin, was the s/o Andrew & Mary Combs I of the Tonoloways Settlement who d 1774, Loudoun Co, VA. Micajah's father, Joseph I of Franklin, left Fayette Co, PA ca 1819, removing to Wayne Co, OH, that part which later became Holmes, which is where he died in 1827, with his son, Joseph B. Combs, Jr., administrator of his estate. Although no mention of Micajah is found in his father's estate records, when his brother, Joseph B. Combs, Jr. later d in Auglaize Co, OH, his estate accounts included: "statement of administrator listing uncollectable debts owed the estate of Joseph Combs … included named Macaga Combs & Joseph Combs owing $28.07 "good for nothing" was dated 8 Dec 1857. Where was Micajah's son, Joseph, in 1850? Is the Nancy GIDLETT [sic] the same as the Nancy Combs who married 01 Jan 1847 Ezekiel GULLETT? Is Tebitha [sic} the same that married Silas COATS in 1855?

Rev. War Pensioner Zachariah JOHNSON, Pension File S32344, applied for his pension on 18 May 1836 in Randolph Co IN, aged 79, declaring that he lived in Northampton Co NC when he first enlisted in the Revolution, but later moved to Loudoun Co VA where he also enlisted.
