Fayette Co., KY is one of Kentucky's earliest counties, established from the state-wide Kentucky County in 1780. In 1785-6, Bourbon was created from Fayette, and in 1788-9, Woodford was created from Fayette. In 1792/3, Clark was established from Bourbon and Fayette; and in 1798/9 Jessamine was created from Fayette.

SPECIAL DISPATCH FOR THE ENQUIRER

Lexington, Ky., December 20...With the induction into office of Thomas A. COMBS, the new mayor of this city, vast and important changes will follow in existing political conditions, and a close bond of union and harmony, it is said, will ensue between the city and county administrations.

Mayor COMBS is a product of Breathitt County, Kentucky, and was born near Jackson February 25, 1868. Twelve years ago he came to Lexington, where he embarked in the lumber business.  He did not enter politics until a few years ago, it is said that one of the first acts of the new Council under the administration of Mayor COMBS will be to appoint a special committee from the Council to work in conjunction with the Chamber of Commerce and the business men generally in their efforts to secure for Lexington a new Federal Building and the purchase of the present structure for use as a City Hall.

The regime of the retiring Mayor, Henry T. DUNCAN has been a turbulent one.  Hampered by an antagonistic Council, and possessing a strong spirit of  pugnacity , he created bitter hostility from the opposing Democratic faction, and legal proceedings have marked his administration.  (Extracted by Combs Researcher Carolyn Clendenin)

Notes: Thomas A. Combs was the son of Alfred & Esther HORTON Combs, and grandson of Henry & Tempie Proffitt DAVIS Combs of Breathitt Co., KY (See also 1922 Thomas A. Combs Letter and see below)
