Hardin is located in the Pennyrile region of the State. The County seat is at Elizabethtown, KY. The county was established in 1792-3 from Nelson, and in 1799, Breckinridgewas established from Hardin. In 1804, Green gained land from Hardin and in 1810 Grayson was established from Hardin and Ohio.  In 1823-4, Meade was established from Hardin and Breckinridge; and in 1843, Larue was established from Hardin.

NOTE: This land was referred to in Thomas Coombs’s will recorded in Henry Co., KY April 1834 Most of the relationships are herein explained, however, Paulina Buchanan was married to Thomas Coombs; she married James Buchanan in Henry Co., KY after Thomas’s death. Thomas’s first wife Elizabeth was a daughter of Adin COOMBS and she was the mother of Emily who married Addison Mitchell of Trimble Co., KY, Isham Coombs of Hardin and Hart Co., KY and Greenberry Coombs of Hart Co., KY and Warren Co., KY. COOMBS & wife sold to Archibald S. LETCHER their Interest in the dower right of their mother of the said Chloe of and to two Certain tracts of land of which said Henry WILLIAMS died (/) and possessed which two tracts are in the said County of Hardin Containing 360 acres and Conveyed to Henry WILLIAMS heirs after his death by Elsworth OWSLEY the other Containing Two hundred acres except Eighty three acres & some poles conveyed to Fielding COOMBS which tract was conveyed by James CRUTCHER to Henry WILLIAMS heirs since his death and for which thes aid COOMBS & wife Executed their bonds to said Letcher and the said Letcher having assigned said bond to Edmund BRANCH Now Therefore the said Thomas F.     Denise Mortorff notes: Thompson Kendall is the son of William and Cicy Brown Kendall of Stafford County, VA who descend from William Kendall and Jemima Kirk Kendall of Stafford County, Virginia and descend from William and Elizabeth Combes Kendall. Elizabeth, wife of Thomas Davis is an aunt Elizabeth Kendall and is the daughter of John Combe and the grandaughter of Archdale Combe immigrant to Virginia.
