Fisty Cemebery (Extracted by Leslie Owens from the actual tombstones onsite) Leslie's directions for the Cemetery: Turn on the road just past the post office (in Fisty) and go over the bridge. You'll see a large sign posted at the entrance. It was late and we didn't have much daylight left to do this. Below is what we were able to transcribe. Combs &c Notes: Correction to the date of birth for Polly Combs and additional comments relative to the identity of her parents.

1) Mae Frazier, in her book A Combs Family, with a subtitle "Descendents of Shadrack Combs born 1784-85, Son of John Combs, Jr. born February 7, 1761, A Revolutionary War Veteran," published by Mae Frazier Jun 1982, states "The author has been unable to confirm a marriage for Shadrack. From the ages of the children one assumes he was married twice. Mack Combs, a grandson and son of Hacker (Russell) one of the younger sons thought his grandmother was Patsy Casebolt. Another name mentioned was Vina Ison but the Vina listed in Josiah Combs "Combses Genealogy" who married Shadrack Combs is too young for this Shadrack."

2) Mae Frazier also states that Polly was the eldest child of Old Shade Combs, and that she was born 1808 (not 1800) and died Mar 16 1892. It is likely the 1800 is just a transcription error. Polly's census records are consistent with an 1808 date of birth (age 42 in 1850 and age 54 in 1860 for example).

3) There is conflicting information as to whether Polly was actually a Combs. The 1929 Knott Co. DC for her daughter Susan Combs states her mother was Polly MOSELEY. More research is needed to determine whether Polly could have been a Moseley instead of a Combs.
