Shelby County was organized from Jefferson County in 1792. Franklin Co., KY was established from Woodford, Mercer and Shelby in 1794-5. Henry Co was established from Shelby in 1798, and Gallatin from Franklin and Shelby in 1798-9. Spencer Co., was established from Shelby, Bullitt and Nelson in 1824.

Transcribed by Researcher Phyllis Hill, See copyright restrictions): This Indenture made the 14th day of August in the year 1823 between Elijah BREEDEN of the State of Indiana and County of Monroe of the one part and John TURNHAM of the County of Shelby and State of Kentucky of the other part witnesseth that the aforesaid Elijah BREEDEN for and in consideration of the Sum of Seventy two dollars to him in hand paid lawful money of Kentucky by the said John TURNHAM the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged hath granted bargained and sold unto the said John TURNHAM his heirs &c all the right title and Interest in and to 211 acres of land on Plumb Creek where Mrs. Frances BREEDEN now lives together with all singular Rights hireditements and appurtenances thereunto belonging and he the said Elijah BREEDEN for himself will and doth covenanat and Promise and agree to and with the aforesaid John TURNHAM and his heirs the said Right title and Interest when at law and to the sum of two hundred and eleven acres and one half of the land from all and every Person or persons claiming or to claim any Right title or Interest in and to the same by or through the said Elijah as here at Law It is expresly understood &c that the said John TURNHAM when a division of said land takes place is to attend to it instead of the aforesaid Elijah BREEDEN and it is further understood should there be a sufficient quantity of land on the east side of Plumb Creek so as to make said TURNHAMS portion in quantity and quality then the said TURNHAM is willing to take it on the said east side of Plumb Creek In Testimony whereof the said Elijah BREEDEN hath hereunto subscribed his name and appended his seal the day and date hereunto written Signed and Delivered in the Presence of Tho.
