Mrs. Peggy Combs

Mrs. Peggy Combs, 31, of 9456 Garfield, died Thursday at Rosewood Hospital in Houston after a short illness. She was a 1963 graduate of Northwestern University and a member of Sunset Acres Baptist Church where she taught a Sunday School class for single adults. She was a director of the Benevolent House, formerly the Purple Jackets of Northwestern.

Born in Vernon Parish, Mrs. Combs had been a resident of Shreveport for eight years.

Survivors include her husband, Dr. S. Bewell Combs Jr.; three daughters, Susan, Danna and Diane Combs; one brother, Jerry McLaren of Houston, Tex.; and her parents, Mr. and Mrs. N.C. McLaren of Leesville.

Funeral Services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday at Sunset Acres Baptist Church under direction of Osborn Funeral Home with the Rev. Charles Harvey, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Forest Park West Cemetery.

The family requests that memorials be sent to the library fund of Sunset Acres Baptist Church.

Pallbearers will be Dr. Bill Bickham, Dr. Allen German, Eddie Power, Dean Washam, John Bowman and S. L. Slack.

Notes: Peggy Doris McLAREN was born 24 Mar 1942 to N. C. and Iona (BOLTON) McLaren in Vernon Parish, Louisiana.  She married Bewell COMBS 15 Jun 1963 in Vernon Parish.  "Danna" should read "Dana."


12 Feb 1982 Simon Bewell COMBS, Sr. died. He was born 28 Jun 1913 to Mark and Dora (DAVIS) COMBS in Miller County, Arkansas.  He married Cleo RHODES Dec 22 1935 in Provencal (Natchitoches Parish, La).  He was buried in Bellwood Cemetery in Natchitoches Parish.

Norma COMBS died.

Shreveport, LA -- Funeral services for Norma COMBS, 63, will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, November 12, 2003 at Summer Grove Baptist Church. Officiating will be Dr. Rod Masteller, pastor of Summer Grove Baptist Church. Interment will follow in Union Cemetery, Florien, LA at 3 p.m.

The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m., Tuesday, November 11, 2003 at Rose-Neath's Southside Funeral Home.

Mrs. COMBS was born March 21, 1940 in Leesville, LA to Clarence and Lovine Helen WELCH. She passed away Sunday, November 9, 2003 in Shreveport, LA. Mrs. Combs earned a degree in education from Northwestern State University in 1961. She taught elementary school for twenty years, spending most of those years instructing fourth graders. She also taught a first grade Sunday school class for ten years. Mrs. Combs was a member of Summer Grove Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Bobby CHANCE and son, Brent CHANCE.

Mrs. Combs is survived by her parents; husband, Dr. Bewell Combs, Jr.; daughters, Reneé NEEL and husband, Jerry of Marshall, TX, Leah FANENE and husband, Monte of Shreveport, LA, Susan HEFNER and husband, John of Sulphur Springs, TX, Dana DIXON and husband David of Crown Point, IN, Diane HAWES and husband, Charles of Shreveport, LA; fifteen grandchildren, Erin WELLS and husband, Kerry, Brett NEEL, Joshua HEFNER, Matthew CHANCE, Chance NEEL, Nicholas COPELAND, Allison HEFNER, Christopher HEFNER, Hannah DIXON, Charles HAWES, IV, Erica DIXON, Samantha DIXON, Sarai FANENE, Ashley FANENE, and Olivia DIXON.

The family suggests memorials be made to the Summer Grove Baptist Building Fund.
