Although Bienville established Natchez across the Mississippi River from present-day Concordia Parish in 1716, it was 1768 before anyone settled in the area.  That settlement didn't last.  In 1798 Don Jose Vidal was granted land on the west bank and built a fort there called "The Post of New Concordia."
