Neighborhood #2: Township 44 North, Range 19 West

John L. and Levi Combs

The land records which follow were apparently on the Morgan and Pettis County Line; i.e., some of the BLM land designated as Morgan County may have actually been in Pettis. According to the research of Combs Researcher Michael R. Wilson: "The Map Guide to the U.S. Federal Censuses -1920 (pp. 194-196) indicates that the county lines changed between 1840 & 1860. The legal description given for the following sections of land plots out between the present communities of Bahner and Florence, Missouri. The Pettis and Morgan County line is also located at this same location. The Missouri Index to Topographic and Other Map Coverage (pp. 18-19), which was used to determine the present county for the section of land, indicates that it would be in Morgan County. But the federal township could be on either side of the county line which means that it is possible that the land is in the present county of Pettis. The exact location of the land would require a USGS 7.5 min Topographical Quadrangle or equivalent map. " (See Also 1850 Census below).
