Notes: Calvin Combs & Virginia BROOKS (April 29, 1877 Wilkes Co, NC Marriage Records (Courthouse). Calvin Combs (29) married Virginia BROOKS - Issued April 29, 1877 - John M. ADAMS, J.P. - At J. M. ADAMS - Witness - T. ADAMS, C. ADAMS, L. HANDY. (Combs Researcher Vanessa Combs Church)). Couple is living next to Thomas BROOKS and only a few doors from Virginia's apparent mother Martha BROOKS, widow of Thomas. Calvin and Virginia aka Martha found next in the 1900 Smythe Co, VA census.

Also Note: Per Ralph Sullivan “We are pretty sure the parents of Calvin Combs are Andrew Jackson Combs and Martha Howell [married 15 Jun 1855, Ashe Co, NC (Jeffrey Weaver's Marriage Records of Ashe County, North Carolina, 1801-1872)]. We found them in the 1870 Jeffersonville, Tazewell Co., NC <sic> [VA] census with Calvin and some of his siblings. We also found them in the 1880 Jefferson, Ashe Co., NC census with his siblings, but Calvin had married in 1877 and was not with them. Also we found their names on death certificates of some of Calvin's brothers and sisters.”
