Shaftsbury Precinct of Albemarle County was est. in 1670, but its name changed to Chowan in 1685. In 1722, Bertie Precinct was established from Chowan and it is possible (not researched) that the following record was for land later in Bertie. In 1729, the precinct of Tyrrell was established from Bertie, Chowan, Currituck and Pasquotank, and thus the following record could also relate to the Combs of Tyrrell Co.
