Glouster Co, NJ was established in 1686, an original county. Atlantic was created from Gloucester in 1837, and Camden from Gloucester in 1844.


7/6/1751 Bucks Co, PA Benjamin COMBE having for some time been removed with his family to within the compass of Haddonfield Monthly Meeting

[now Camden, then Gloucester Co, NJ], has not requested a certificate.

August 30, 1765 "WHEREAS Elizabeth, the wife of Thomas COOMBS of Gloucester county, New-Jersey, has at sundry times eloped from her husband, this is to forewarn all persons from trusting her on my account, as I will pay no debts of her contracting after this date. Thomas COOMBS."

Life resident of the State of NJ. Place of death: Woolwich Twp. Father's name: John COMBS; mother's name: MARY ASHTON, both parents born NJ. Died 14th January 1887...cause of death: old age.  [cannot read name of medical attendant] Undertaker was W. H. HARROLD [or W. H. HANNOLD], residence: Swedesboro. Place of burial: Clarksboro, NJ.

MAR Notes: John and Mary ASHTON Combs, both Quakers, m 4 Nov 1795, Upper Freehold, Monmouth Co, NJ. Undocumented research states that "Isaac KILLE married Elizabeth COMBS," no date or place given, but ca 1820. The KILLES were longtime Methodists so Elizabeth may have married outside the Quaker religion.
