Guernsey County was created by act Mar.1, 1810 from Muskingum and Belmont Counties. It was named for the English Channel Island of the same name. The county seat is Cambridge, located on the Old National Road, US 40 and Interstate I70.

Note: "Guernsey Co. Marriages 1810-1832" by OH Gen. Soc. (1987) includes No Combs, Coombs, &c.

Bob Combs Notes: Based on the 1850 Census, this may be Mahlon Combs who was in Franklin Twp., Fayette Co, PA from 1810 through 1829.


28 Aug 1845 Mahlon Combs will. In the name of God, Amen. I Mahlon Combs, of the County of Guernsey and State of Ohio, being of sound mind and memory, blessed be almighty God for the same, I do make this my last will and testament in manner following; First, I give my body to the dust and commit my soul to God; Second, it is my will that all my just debts and funeral expences be fully paid; Next, I give and bequeath unto my beloved wife Judia Combs one half of all my real property that I own off of the west side during her lifetime and after her decease to be equally divided amongst my children that was born of my wife Judia; also that my before mentioned wife is to have two horses, two cows, ten head of sheep, and all the household furniture and moneys then by or due to me go to my beloved said wife and her children. I will and bequeath the remaining half of the east side of my real property and also my farming utentials and the remaining part of my cattel to be equally divided between my five sons borne of my first wife, that is to say : Benjamin, Joseph, John, William, and Martin Combs; and all of the grain then reaped or growing on said farm is to be for the use of my said wife and her children; and lastly, I hereby constitute and appoint my said wife Judia Combs and my son Benjamin Combs to be the executors of this my last will and testament.......In testimony I have set my hand and seal this twenty eighth day of August in the year of our Lord 1845. Signed, published, and declared by the said Mahlon Combs in presence of us who have at his request signed as witnesses to the same. (signed) Isaac M. LANNING. (signed) Jerry LANNING. (signed) John MCALHANEY.

Whereas I Mahlon Combs of the County of Guernsey and State of Ohio have made and published my last will and testament in wrighting on the 28 day of August 1845, I do hereby declare that the present wrighting to be a codicil to my said will, and direct the same to be anext thereto and taken as a part thereof. I do give and bequeath to my wife Judia Combs and her children the timber that is on the wood lot now enclosed with fence, containing six or seven acres, it being on the east half of my before mentioned property. In testament whereof I the said Mahlon Combs have sat my hand and seal this 21st day of May 1850. Mahlon [his X mark] Combs
