Bradford County was formed as Ontario County in 1810 from Luzerne and Lycoming Counties and attached to same. By 1812 the name was changed to Bradford and the unorganized county was organized. In 1831 Lycoming gained some land along the south border from Bradford, which in 1846 became part of Sullivan County.
