Fannin County was established in 1837 from Red River County. It is located on the state line with Oklahoma in the northeastern corner of the state. Descendant Counties include (in 1846) Collin, Denton, Grayson, Hunt, (in 1848) Cooke, (in 1856) Young, (in 1858) Archer, Baylor, Hardeman, Haskell, Throckmorton, and (in 1876) Cottle. The county seat is Bonham.
