Liberty County, was established in 1836 from an Old Spanish Municipality. Descendant Counties include Polk (in 1846), Chambers (1858), and San Jacinto (1870). The county seat is Liberty.

Sherrye Remkes Graves' Note: SARAH ELLEN COMBS was born in MS or LA about 1840. She married PHILIP GREEN II from Catahoula Parish, LA. They moved to Liberty County Texas in 1860. Sarah Ellen COMBS GREEN died about 1863/64 and her two children MARY (age 6) and PHILIP RANK GREEN III (age 3) went to live with her mother-in-law Mary. Sarah's husband, Philip GREEN II was a Confederate soldier who was killed in Memphis, TN about 1863/64. He is buried in the Confederate Cemetery in Chattanooga, TN. [Mary GREEN, the widow of Philip GREEN I, married Cornelious SPOOR about 1842.]
