Note: Recently purchased a used book from a friend who was down-sizing his library. The book is simply a listing of the marriage records of a father and son who were Justices of the Peace in a small town in SW Washington County, PA. In the preface, the transcriber reports that since PA did not require a marriage license until the late 1880's (law passed 10/85), many WV couples traveled to PA to be married.
Naturally, I was curious to find out who the parents were of these Combs folks. From an examination of the 1850-1880 census for Ohio Co., [W]VA, it appears that at least three and possibly four of these folks are the children of a Roy COMBS b. 1824-1826 and his wife Mary E. b. abt. 1830
Benjamin H. Combs b. abt. November 1849 is in the household of Roy and Mary E. in 1850 (above) - 1870. Ann M. b. abt. 1851-1852 and Harvey b. abt. 1857 were in Roy's 1860 & (July) 1870 household. Roy was a glass blower b. in Virginia; he died before the census of 1880. There was also Catharine Combs b. abt. 1864 in Roy's 1870 household and with his widowed wife in 1880; Catharine might have been Kittie V. Jane McCann Walsh
Question: Who was Roy? Was he from Stafford County, VA?
