Rockingham County, VA was established in 1778 from Augusta Co VA, and was adjacent to Shenandoah Co VA. In 1787-8, Pendleton Co VA was est. from Augusta, Hardy and Rockingham Cos. In 1831 Page Co VA was est. from Rockingham and Shenandoah.
Rockingham County, VA has not been researched as yet; however, it is believed that we may have identified the one (probable) Combs Record located in that county thus far as having been that of Nicholas "8" & Nancy GRIGSBY Combs, Sr. of Shenandoah Co VA and Perry Co, KY:

Michael ROROK, 8 white souls and 1 dwelling.

Note: Also on this list are a John and a Benjamin GRIGSBEE, and a John KITE.

Nicholas CAME - 6 white souls, 2 dwellings, and 2 other buildings.
Notes: Nicholas Combs, s/o John & Nancy HARDING Combs, Sr., is listed on the 1782 Shenandoah Co VA Tax List, and again on the 1785 Shenandoah Co VA tax list. Michael ROARK, 29 Sep 1746, Bucks Co, PA, enlisted in the Rev War in 1781 while residing in Rockingham Co., VA, in VA regiment. In 1792 ROARK removed to Hawkins Co TN where he pensioned in 1832. He died testate 09 Jan 1839, his will naming his daughter, Sarah "Sallie" Combs, wife of Elijah Combs (brother of Nicholas). Michael ROARK had m pre-1768, Leticia "Letty" GRIGSBY who was age 90 in 1840. In 1839 Nancy (GRIGSBY) Combs, age 87, gave an affidavit in Perry Co KY stating that she was at their wedding, and resided near them at that time. The relationship of Leticia GRIGSBY Roark and Nancy GRIGSBY Combs remains unknown.

Notes: Nicholas CAME is not on any of this counties 1787 tax lists, nor are any CAME/Combs, etc. (Nettie Schreiner-Yantis) Nicholas Combs (and all var. spellings has not been located on any of the 1787 VA Tax Lists), and is believed to have already removed to Tennessee by this time.
