SE Note: James Anison Combs (1818-1902) and Susanah CORBIN (per son James B Combs's 1929 Pleasants Co, WVA death record), married 1838 in Hampshire Co, Virginia. This couple moved around and is found in records in several counties. James may have been the James Jr. in pre-1850 Hampshire Co, Virginia, land records. Couple not found in 1860 but are found in the 1870 Wood Co, WVA census, 1880 Doddridge Co, WVA census, and James A , widowed, is found living with son James B in the 1900 Pleasants Co, WVA census where his death is recorded in 1902. Their complete family group is unknown; however, daughter Martha is documented by her 13 June 1858 marriage record, son John W documented by his 31 Dec. 1868 Wood Co marriage record; son James B is documented by his Wood Co marriage record and his Pleasants Co 1929 death record; daughter Annie is documented by her 27 July 1860 Wood Co death record, and son Mathew is documented by his Taylor Co birth record and his 19 Dec 1881 Doddridge Co death record. There may have been a daughter Susan and a son Freeman B (see 1880 Doddridge Co census).

Note: Francis H Combs BRASHEARS, d/o of RW Robert Combs and his wife Sarah LINTON?. Her age is misstated. She is documented by her Fauquier Co. marriage bond (29 Apr 1814) to John W. BISHEAR, an 1825 deed of trust from her father Robert Combs to Henry GLASCOCK, and a Fauquier Co Chancery suit between the heirs of Robert Combs. Her husband John may have been deceased as early as 1825. This family, including Frances, age 73, are next found in the 1860 Marion Co, MO census. Marriage: George GOLDEN and Martha Combs; Date of Marriage: 13 June 1858; Place: Taylor Co; Groom: age 27, single, born Baltimore MD, resides Grafton, Va; occupation: Rail Roading, Parents: not known; Bride: age 15, single, born Hampshire Co, Va, resides Grafton, Va; Parents: Jas & Susannah Combs; Recorded 21 June 1858.

Note: This couple may be the same as found in the 1860 Washington Co, OH census. The ages are right. They have no children. Martha is next found in her parents 1870 Wood Co census household.
