Note that both of the above records were during the period of the Revolutionary War, thus both masters presumably performing "patriotic services." A "Cdr. [Commander?] Ebenezer COMBS/COOMBS is listed in DAR records as born in 1746/7 in Massachussetts, died 10-5-1783; married Abigail THOMPSON. Service: Massachussets." (Combs &c. of the DAR)
