Southwark, St. Savior

15 Nov 1575 St Savior, London, England. Married: Ralph YARDLEY and Rhoda MARSTON (FamilySearch.Org)

26 Aug 1603 Will of Ralph YARDLEY, Merchant Tailor of London, dated 26 Aug 1603/ proved 27 Feb 1603/4, 1/3 to wife, Rhoda, 1/3 shared between children: Raphe, George, John, Thomas, Ann. To be paid to sons at age 21, to daughter at 21 or marriage, whichever first. Final 1/3 to be shared: poor of St. Saviors, Southwark, London; those merchant tailors who attend his burial; "to my sister, PALMER, a ring of gold to the value of 6 shillings, 8 pence; and to my cousin John PALMER, her husband a like ring of the like value, and to my daughter EARBY my first wife's wedding ring, and to my son ERBY [sic] her husband, my best cloak, and to my cousin, Richard YEARWOOD, my black cloth gown of Turkish Fashion" …rest and residue to children.... Item. Brother Thomas YARDLEY, ring of gold… son Ralph to be executor… said Richard YARWOOD [sic] and son Edward EARBYN [sic] to be overseers. (Sec 24, Hart, Water's Gleanings, Reprinted in Genealogies of Virginia Families, Vol. 5, p. 920)

Notes: See also May 1575 marriage of Ralph YARDLEY and Agnes ABBOTT at St. Mary Woolchurch Haw, London, and note that the year of above marriage may be wrong (an AF entry states it took place in 1586, not 1575, that Agnes ABBOT died 18 Dec 1576 in St. Savior, Surry, by whom Catherine YARDLEY who married Edward IRBY). George YARDLEY, christened 28 Jul 1588, St. Savior, Southwark, Surrey ("son of Ralph") died 1627, Virginia Colony; married Temperance FLOWERDIEU who aft his death married next Richard WEST, bro of Lord Delaware. On 20 Jan 1625/6, Captain Nathaniel BASSE declared that "John COOMBES & John EWYNE cam over into this County in the good shipp caled Marigolde Ano Domi 1619 the 20th of May and were delivered by Capt. LANE to Sr. George YARDLEY to the Compenys use." (See Early Combs &c. of Virginia). George & Temperance's son, Argall, married Sarah OFFLEY (d/o Robert & Ann OSBORN Offley of London), her third husband, she having married (1) Adam THOROUGHGOOD and (2) John GOOKIN… By YARDLEY, Sarah had dau. Elizabeth, b1619; sons Argoll, b 1621, and Francis, b 1624. By John GOOKIN, she had Mary GOOKIN who m (1) William MOSELEY; and (2) Anthony LAWSON. Questions: Who was Ralph YARDLEY'S "sister PALMER?" Kin to the Archdale-Palmer family? Was William MOSELEY kin to William MOSELEY of Old Rappa Co VA, "somehow uncle" to William UNDERWOOD, Sr., step-son of Archdale and Elizabeth COMBES of that county?

Also note that he terms John PALMER "cousin" (rather than brother in law) even though married to his sister???

17 Dec 1618 St. Helen, Bishopsgate, London. Married: "Richard BAKER of St. Saviors, Southwark, gent, and Sara ARCHDALE, the dau. of one ARCHDALE, late of St. Mary Buthaw, London, M'rchaunt, decd, by license." (Archdale Memoirs)

According to the Memoirs, this is Sarah, d/o Martin and Barbara SEXTON Archdale. Martin ARCHDALE died in St. Margaret Pattens, not St. Mary Bothaw (a city centre parish, but one where no Archdales have been found as yet, but perhaps not yet extracted?), but his daughter is the only "unaccounted for" Sarah ARCHDALE and this is likely her.
