1851 According to the 1914 Boone Co, IN biography of Ben F. COOMBS, he was born in Lebanon [Boone Co], Indiana, April 10, 1861 to George and Lydia A. (DEBOIS) Coombs, “both natives of Union County, Indiana, where they grew to maturity, were educated and married, and remained there until in 1851, when they removed to Lebanon where they established the future home of the family… Both the COOMBS and DEBOIS families came originally from New Jersey.”

Notes: George has not been located on either the 1850 Boone, nor Union Co, IN census enumerations. Also note that DEBOIS may have been DUBOIS (1828 Union Co Cooms-Dubois marriage)

East/Drook Cemetery

George Coombs died May 13, 1845 - age 40 yrs old

Isaac P. Coombs died 17 October, 1862 - age 22 yrs, 2 mos, 19 dys - Civil War

John Coombs died 31 August, 1873 - age 30 yrs, 5 mos, 29 days - Civil War Veteran (Based on John's age I think he was the son of Elizabeth listed as 6 in the 1850 census)

Note: Also listed in the news papers published between 1822-1846 in the Union Co. is an Isaac Coombs is listed as a Cabinet maker & justice of the peace. This is probably the Isaac Coombs in the 1840 census and the father of Isaac P. Coombs killed in the civil war.

Submitted by Robert Jensen (descendant of Murphy Combs of Sumner IL).
