Notes: Might this be Stephen Combs who m 27 Jul 1822, Cooper Co, MO, Synthey WRIGHT? (The next family on this census page is that of a Samuel WRIGHT). Stephen Combs was on the 1830 Cooper Co, MO census, but is missing in 1840. A Stephen Combs is on the 1840 Schuyler Co, IL [sic] census, but missing from the 1850. According to The Combes Genealogy…, one Stephen A. Combs was a s/o Stephen and Barbara ALLEN Combs of Loudoun Co, VA and Lincoln Co, KY. This source states that "Stephen A., b. 1-28-1794; m. Susan BARBER, Mary ALLY, Cynthia ---. Moved to Illinois." According, however, to Alpheus Harlan's "History and Genealogy of the Harlan Family and Particularly of the Descendants of George and Michael Harlan, who settled in Chester County, Pa," Gateway Press, 1988, "Stephen, b 1,28,1794, in Lincoln Col, Ky., d. 8, 6, 1869, in Sullivan Co., Ind.; m. Susan BARBER; (2) Mary ALLEN; (3) Cynthia SPIVA." Also note that one Stephen Combs with wife, Cynthia, served in the War of 1812 in Col. BOZEL'S or BONSAL'S Kentucky Militia.

MRW Notes: A Stephen Combs and a Stephen B. Combs are listed on the 1860 Sullivan Co, MO Census Index, and a Stephen Combs also patented land in that county. Could he have been this Stephen Combs?

Ed Note: Could the above reference to Sullivan Co, IN have been in error, and actually for Sullivan Co, MO?

Important: All Records collected for this county may not have been added here as yet. See also the Combs Research List Archives
