Northampton County, on the VA state line, was established from Bertie in 1741. In 1759 Hertford Co was established from Northampton, Bertie & Chowan, with no substantial changes after that date.

Robert Combs

(North Carolina Taxpayers 1679-1790 By Clarence E. Ratcliff)

07 Feb 1781 (Rich Square Quaker MM Records, Northampton Co NC) "Winifred Combs received into membership." (Encyclopedia of American Quaker Genealogy, Vol. 1, North Carolina, W. W. Hinshaw)

18 Mar 1781 (Rich Square Quaker MM Records, Northampton Co NC). "Winnifred Combs m John PURVISS." (Encyclopedia of American Quaker Genealogy, Vol. 1, North Carolina, W. W. Hinshaw)

Notes: Winnifred is the only Combs record listed in the Rich Square Minutes and it appears her membership may have been in order to marry John PURVISS, already a member. Her relationship to Robert Combs of 1780, if any, is unknown. By 1783, John & Winnifred Combs Purviss appear to have removed to Wayne Co NC where their children are recorded in the Contentnea Meeting records, and where John PERVIS [sic] died in 1809.
