Montgomery and Robertson were established in 1796 from the abolished Tennessee Co. In 1820-1821, much of northern Montgomery became part of KY (settlement of land dispute). In 1803, Dickson was established from Montgomery and Robertson, and that same year, Stewart was created from Montgomery and non-county area.

No early Combs have been found in the records of Montgomery although the following land may have been in Montgomery (if not Robertson) prior to formation of Dickson:

04 Jan 1792- 23 Apr 1814 (Dickson TN DBB:274) State of NC conveys land on Barton's Creek; land was granted to William COMBS, private in North Carolina line and registered in Halifax County [NC]; property was assigned to Charles CAMPBELL, then to Samuel BARTON of Davidson Co, TN. Made 4 Jan 1792. Reg. 23 Apr 1814. ("Dickson Co, Tennessee Handbook," Jill Knight Garrett, SHP, 1984, Easley, SC, p. 166)

Notes: The 27 Feb 1904 Posey Co, IN Death Certificate of Christina CARRELL lists her as b TN, age 71. D 27 Feb 1904, Mt. Vernon, Posey Co, IN. Burial at Goad Cemetery by A.V. Weisinger Mortuary.
