Shelby County, County Seat, Memphis, lies in the Southwestern corner of Tennessee on the Mississippi River and the Mississippi state line. This county was established in 1819 from the Western District. In 1824, Fayette Co was established from Shelby and Hardeman.

1861-1862. Memphis TN. Harry COMBS enlisted in the 44th Mississippi Infantry Regiment in Memphis [Shelby Co], Tennessee in 1861, deserting in 1862. (Combs Researcher Keith Marshall who believes it possible that Harry was an Englishman. See Also Index to Confederate Combs of the Civil War)
