Travis County, Texas, was established in 1840 from Bastrop County. Descendant Counties include Hays (1848), Burnet (1852), Brown and Lampasas (1856), Callahan, Coleman, Comal, Eastland, Runnels, and Taylor (1858). The county seat is Austin.
