RICHARD ARCHDALE, of Chipping Wycombe, Bucks. Dated, 31 May 1638. Proved, 8 Oct. 1638. His son-in-law, John Fleetwood, to be paid whatever is due unto him for his wife's portion. Leaves to his third son Matthew Archdale, all his stock-in-trade in London, Bordeaux and Lisbon. £300 to each of his sons, Matthew and Robert Archdale. £150 to his grandson, John Fleetwood. £50 to his grandson, William F1eetwood. To his son, Robert Archdale, £300 “ due unto me on bond by Mr. Richard Powell.” £50 to each of his three granddaughters, Judith, Mary and Susan, being the daughters of his eldest son Thomas Archdale. To his second son Richard Archdale, all his household stuff at Whately, Oxfordshire (left by Abraham Archdale), and all big stock and cattle there. To his wife Judith, all household stuff and plate at his house called Loakes; the same to remain, after her decease, to his son Thomas Archdale. £40 to his brother-in-law Mr. Arthur Alvey ; also £20 each to the wife, and to Bernard Alvey, son of the said Arthur. To his cousin, Mrs. Barbara Rotheram, money owed to him by Mr. Edward Browne. £20 to James Povey ; also £40 to Katherine Povey, and £1O to Jane Povey, sisters of the said James. Appoints his son-in-1aw John Fleetwood, executor.

Will of  Mrs.  Elizabeth  Lee, daughter of the preceding Richard Archdale :—  Dated, 25 May 1688. “ Elizabeth Lee, of Blufield, Co. Berks, widow, being ancient and sick of body ;  to be buried in parish Church of Wycombe neare my ffather and mother with as small wordly pompe and charge as may be. To my Lady Mary Alexander, the Earle of Starling's eldest dau., my Lady's god-dau., £100 out £150 her father borrowed of me in his late Lady's dayes, and I have £150 more in his Lordship's hands on bond ; also to Lady Mary my enameled gold chaine and gold watch ; to my Lord Henry Alexander, Mr. William, Mr. Robert, Lady Jane and Lady Judy, each £10, remainder of £150 aforesaid ; to my Lady Starlin's youngest sonn, Mr. Peter, my god-son £20 ; to my grandson William ffleetwood £100, and to his eldest son John, my godson £100, and to his dau. Katherine ffleetwood £10 ; to my granddau. Mary Shipton, my god-dau., my great Jewell but, if she have noe children, then it to go to my grandson John ffleetwood or some of her brothers' daus ; to my cozen George his sonn Charles £2O ; to my cozen Alice ffrescot £5 and to her son Joseph, late my man, £3, and to her sonn William and dau. Margarett 20s apeice ; to John Hawkins which was my tenant £5 ; to all servants £3 apeice, and to my maid my apparell and linnen ; to poor of Great Missenden £10, and to poor of Benfeild £5. Sonn Mr. Robert Lee, Res. Leg. and Executor. Witnesses, Solomon Nash, Michael Waudesford, mark of Ann Sprules.”

Proved, 17 June 1695, by executor named in the will.

MERVYN ARCHDALL, of Castle Archdall, a General in His Majesty's Army. Dated, 28 Sept. 1829. Appoints John Richardson, Dacre Hamilton, and Lieut-Col. Hugn Montgomery, trustees. Devises his estates in Fermanagh and Tyrone to his brother Col. William Archdall for life, with remainder to the 1st, 2nd, 3rd and other sons of Said William, with remalnder to thelr sons in order of seniority ; remainder to his brother Edward ; then to the sons of said Edward, in order of seniority, and to their sons in like manner. To his wife Jane, an annuity of £50O, in addition to her jointure of £500 a year. To his wife, his best coach or chaise, with 5 of his best carriage horses ; also his house and household furniture in Kildare Place, Dublin, the same to remain after her death to the owner of the Castle Archdall estates. To his brother Edward, an annuity of £500, for education of the younger children of said Edward. Annuities of £2OO to his brother Henry, £60 to his sister Catherine, and £500 to each successive heir to Castle Archdall estates. Legacies of £1000 to his sister Sidney, £5000 to his nephew Edward Archdall, £100 to Charles Archdall of Riverstown, and £100 to his servant Robert Thompson. To all other servants, one year's wages. Executors, John Richardson, Dacre Hamilton, Hugh Montgomery, Edward Archdall (brother of testator), Sir Hugh Stewart, Bart., and William Humphrys senior. Codicil dated, 14 April 1837, “ I bequeath my lease of the Grove to my wife Jane. ” Codicil dated. 20 April 1839, the sum of £2000 to be divided equally amuongst the testator's nieces, Mary, Elizabeth, Sidney and Harriet Hamilton. Proved, 5 Sept. 1839.

 

CATHERINE ARCHDALL. Dated, 18 June 1849. Bequeaths her paternal fortune of £2000 as follows. £250 to each of the four daughters of her sister Sidney Hamilton. £500 to her sister Wilhelmina McNamara. £200 to her Niece Mary Archdall. £200 to her nephew Dawson Hamilton. £100 to Thomas Jones. Her furniture to Anne Martin. Residuary Legatee, Thomas Jones. Proved, 24 Aug. 1852, by the executor, Maxwell Hamilton.

 

COL. WILLIAM ARCHDALL, of Castle Archdall. Dated, 7 Oct. 1852.  Bequeaths leasehold interest in lands of Cappy, etc., and the farm of Knockroe, to his brother Edward. £500 to Robert Archdall of Riverstown. £400 to his man, Henry Madden. £50 to his butler, William Dane. Residuary Legatee and executor, his nephew Capt. Mervyn Archdall, M.P. Codicil dated, 21 May 1853, bequeathe £1000 to each of his nephews, Maxwell Hamilton, Rev. Henry Archdall, Nicholas Archdall, Capt. Montgomey Archdall and Capt. Audley Archdall. Proved, 12 March 1857.

 

EDWARD ARCHDALL, of Riversdale. Dated. 20 Sept. 1859. Begueaths £3OOO to each of his daughters, Mary and Richmal. £5 to each of his sons, Edward, Henry, Nicholas, Montgomery, Audley, and his daughter Letitia Brooke. £25 each to Matilda Alley and her sister Julia Alley. Residuary Legatee, his son William. Executors, his sons Mervyn and Edward Archdall. Codicil dated, 11 May 1861. Proved, 9 June 1864.
