Knox Co., KY was established on 1808 from Lincoln Co., KY. In 1807, Clay was established from Knox, Floyd, and Madison; in 1810, Rockcastle was established from Knox, Lincoln, Madison and Pulaski; in 1818, Whitley was established from Knox and in 1819, Harlan was established from Knox. In 1826, Laurel was established from Knox, Clay, Rockcastle, and Whitley, and in 1867, Josh Bell (Bell) was established from Knox and Harlan.

July 15, 1898 Mt. Echo Newspaper, London, Laurel Co., Ky. "A special term of the Knox Circuit Court convened at Barbourville last Monday for the purpose of trying Jesse FIELDS, for the murder of Judge J. H. Combs, about two years ago, at Hazard. Joe ADKINS, who was indicted jointly with FIELDS, for this crime is now serving out a life sentence."
