William B. Combs, 48, KY
Matilda, 26
Robert N. (M?) Combs, 4 mos.

Polly Combs, 20 MO

(Transcribed by Combs Researcher Ashley Darin Combs)

ADC Notes: A William N (or B) Combs was m on 24 Aug 1834 in Greene Co MO to a Matilda AILSON WILSON by Samuel MARTIN.

Question: Is it possible that the above William had been married earlier to a wife by whom he had Elihu and Polly? Elihu Combs is next found in 1860 in Oregon Co MO

Corrected

District № 45

p. 138, Nov 19, 1850

314/314 William B. Combs, 48 mw farmer KY
Matilda 26 fw NC

New page 139
John 12 mw MO
Jesse 9 mw MO
Nancy M 6 fw MO
Robert M 4 mw MO
Elihu Combs 19 mw laborer IA -
Polly Combs 20 fw MO -

Notes: Couple not found in 1860 census records. Also, Whitney Coombs adds: the birth state for Elihu is given as Ia=IOWA; however, “Ia” was very frequently used to abbreviate Indiana in the 1850 census records. IA has only recently become the accepted abbreviation for Iowa. Since the path of migration for this family (based of birth locations) appears to have been from KY to MO, it is likely that their path was down the Ohio River, along the shores of Indiana and on into Missouri. Elihu & Polly have marks through column ten: “Married within the year.” Also see an Elihu Combs and Polly (married within the year) in 1850 Census of Pulaski Co, MO.
