Henry HAYS was the f/o Keziah who m Thomas Hicks Combs 3 Feb 1801 (See Below) John ARMTON (or ARENTON) was probably John ARRINGTON whose (dau?) Sarah ARRINGTON m Levi COMBS 27 Jul 1817. Notes: See Thomas Hicks & Keziah HAYES Combs. Given that Thomas Hicks Combs was apparently already either a landowner or tenant farmer by 1792, is this marriage nine years later possibly a second one?

Aug 1, 1801 to March 1803 - Benjamin PARKS acct against Estate Edmund DENNY deceased,: pd. following: George Combs, Ann Combs, John BALTRIP, John TOWNSEN, Francis REYNOLDS, Ezekiel BROWN.

Notes: The presence of John TOWNSEND on above list may indicate relationship of this George Combs to William Combs who m Hannah TOWNSEND(?)

5 Nov 1802 - Apprentice Bond - George Combs bound unto Joshua SOUTHER to learn occupation blacksmith til 21 years, signed/ Joshua SOUTHER. (Page 80) (Wilkes County NC Will Book Two (1800-1811) pub. by Wilkes County Genealogical Society)

Notes: Were George & Lucy Combs siblings? Children of George Combs, deceased in 1800? Joshua SOUTHER was (according to family tradition?) the brother of Jesse SOUTHER who m Jane Combs 1 Apr 1800 in Wilkes (w/Joshua their bondsman). Her relationship, if any, to George & Lucy Combs above? Joshua SOUTHER had m Libbie PROFFIT 17 Sep 1801 in Wilkes Co NC. Was Libbie PROFITT kin to Elizabeth PROFFITT who m Evan DAVIS, their daughter, Temperance Proffitt "Tempie" DAVIS marrying Henry Combs in 1837 in Perry Co KY? Also note that Libbie is a common nickname for Elizabeth.

29 April 1805 - Apprentice Bond Willie Little Combs bound unto George Combs to learn occupation farmer until 21 years of age, signed/George Combs (Wilkes NC WB2, Page 151) (Wilkes County NC Will Book Two (1800-1811) pub. by Wilkes County Genealogical Society)

Notes: Who was Willie Little Combs? Possibly another child of George, deceased, of 1800? But to which George Combs was he apprenticed? Was there possibly a William LITTLE after whom he was named? Or could this be a namesake of Capt. Wm. LYTLE of RW? Also note that Absher's Some Pioneers… lists this individual as Wilie Littleton Combs. If the name was Wilie rather than Willie, could he be the later Wiley Combs of Wilkes Co NC census records? And should we be seeking a LITTLETON, not a LITTLE or LYTLE? Also note possiblity of Littlepage.

Notes: See Levi Combs, b ca 1795, NC; Sarah ARRINGTON Combs, b ca 1789, NC; in Washington Co AR by 1840 at latest (and probably earlier). Sarah's mother, Mary, born ca 1765, shows a MD birth state in the 1850 census of that county. John ARRINGTON above is believed to have been Sarah ARRINGTON Combs' father, having married Mary STEVINGSON [STEVENSON?], 27 Dec 1783, Wilkes Co, NC. Also note that this surname may have earlier been (or a.k.a.) HARRINGTON. Also in Washington Co AR was Redding PUTMAN who had married Stacy Combs, said to have been (oral family tradition?) daughter of Bennett & Dorothy Combs of Pendleton SC. This Bennett Combs said to have been originally of St. Mary's Co MD (Still being researched), and at least one early researcher has claimed that Stacy Combs Putman was b in Wilkes Co NC.
